Music Theory On Line

Up - Down Continuously

The pitches that are represented by these 7 letters get higher as the alphabet goes forward. B is a higher pitch than A. C is a higher pitch than B, etc. The reverse is true. F is a lower pitch than G. E is a lower pitch than F, etc.

The musical alphabet is continuous. As the alphabet goes forward (up) the note G is followed by the higher note A. As the alphabet descends the note A is followed by a lower note G.

This same sequence continues across the entire grand staff alternating line, then space, then line, then space, etc. There will be more later on that concept.
